Claim already denied? See what to do next.
When Your Insurer's Interests Don't Match Yours
Your insurer has an entire team handling your claim. You're expected to document everything, prove your loss, and respond to requests on their timeline.
Without the right support, valid claims get delayed, underpaid, or denied.
What You're Up Against
Most people aren't underprepared because they've done something wrong. They just haven't been told what's actually required to get paid.
How Tugboat Helps
We review your claim, help you respond to your adjuster, compare estimates, and make sure nothing gets missed. You keep control. We give you the backup.
What Claim Support Looks Like
Here's what Tugboat members actually get when they're working through a claim.
Letters and Emails That Move Your Claim Forward
We help you write clear, professional messages that present your case and push back when your insurer gets something wrong. The right letter at the right time can break a stall, challenge a lowball estimate, or get a denial reconsidered.
Photo and Documentation Help
Photos make or break a claim, but most people don't know what adjusters are actually looking for. We help you identify missing shots, capture the right angles, and tie your damage to covered causes so nothing gets overlooked.
Estimate Reviews and Comparisons
Contractor bids and insurance estimates rarely match. We help you compare line items, identify what's missing from the insurer's scope, and advocate for a supplement when the numbers don't add up.
Coverage and Payout Clarity
Your policy has limits, sub-limits, deductibles, and conditions that all affect each other. We help you track what's been paid, what still applies, and where you may be leaving money on the table.

“I faced a complex insurance claim that dragged on for several months, and having Tugboat by my side made a huge difference. Their guidance gave me the confidence to move forward, and Rachel was absolutely wonderful—always warm, thoughtful, and ready with helpful advice. She even took the time to create reply templates, which made the communication smoother and less stressful. What I loved most was knowing I wasn't alone in the process. It's incredibly helpful to work with someone like Rachel, who has experience as an adjuster—she understands both sides of the process and can offer realistic, actionable advice that truly makes a difference. I highly recommend them to anyone navigating the stressful world of insurance claims!”

“If it weren't for the Tugboat crew, I would have accepted the pittance offered by the insurance company and thrown in the towel long ago. When it comes to insurance, I'm like a fish out of water. But with the help of the Tugboat crew, I now have a chance—a good chance—to prevail against the insurance company. The tremendous preparation and documentation by the Tugboat crew, especially in the face of a potential lawsuit, has made all the difference. The knowledge and support provided by the Tugboat crew has way beyond anything I have ever received from even my insurance agent. You will never regret signing up with Tugboat!!!”

“I lost my house in the Palisades Fire and am underinsured. Aaron was very kind to take a call and go through the next steps at the beginning, when the whole situation was overwhelming. We were then guided by Rachel who was amazing. I would confidently recommend working with Aaron and his team at Tugboat. They have in-depth working knowledge of how insurance companies operate in claim situations, they are concise and I feel like I was very fairly treated and spoken for. Hopefully you will never need their services, but if you have the misfortune of needing help with Insurance claims, then Tugboat are competent experts that I would highly recommend!”

FAQ
Usually, cashing the check does not mean you agree to the offered settlement amount. When to be cautious is if the words "full and final" are printed on the check or the insurance company made you sign a release before sending the payment.
This happens a lot. Insurance estimates are built using pricing databases that don't always reflect real-world costs. If your contractor's bid is higher, you can advocate for the difference to be issued in a supplement payment.
The short answer is that it depends on your policy and state regulations. Sometimes diagnostic and even destructive testing is covered. Other times the insurance may only pay for the work if the damage ends up being covered. In some instances the insurance company will try to selectively cover some types of testing and not others.
When you took out your loan, you agreed to name the mortgage company as a payee on your policy. It doesn't mean they keep the money, but they do have control over when and how those funds are released to you.
No. You always have the right to choose your own contractor. Choose someone you trust, and know that Tugboat can help you compare scopes to be sure the repair plan is complete. One exceedingly rare caveat to this is if your policy has a right to repair clause that the insurance company chooses to exercise.
Many policies with Replacement Cost coverage only pay the depreciated value upfront with the difference only paid after proof that the item has been replaced.
